I love talking about the people I photograph. I’ve learned so much from them and I want to share it!
I have made numerous radio appearances including on BBC4’s Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio Scotland’s Personal Best show, and I’m called in to BBC Radio Bristol anytime (or so it seems) they run any feature on ageing.
I do lots of local community radio in Bristol. I love doing it: discovering the grass-roots initiatives in this city I call home, and meeting the people who run them, is a continually humbling as well as inspiring experience. Of course I feel very lucky to be able to report on elite athletes competing in national and international events. But learning about the sports projects in my local community designed to help people get the benefits of more active lives in a myriad possible ways, and meeting the people that run them, is absolutely as much of a privilege too.
To this end I’m a co-presenter on radio BCfm’s The Midweek Sports Bar every Tuesday evening from 7.00-9.00pm, which is a big highlight of my week. I’m also the ‘Sports Correspondent’ for Ujima Radio’s Babbers Show where my main contribution is a monthly interview with a local Bristol man or woman over 60 who’s doing something special in the sport they love. Loving that too.
I’ve done some TV work too, appearing on Sky TV and Channel 4 News as well as on BBC 1’s Truth or Scare show, trying to encourage Angela Rippon to take up running in her 70s (not with much success, I fear).
I’m enjoying this side of my work more and more. Any ideas? Bring’em on!
