If you can’t see it, you can’t be it, as the saying goes. I was happy to hear about a Photography Competition that’s all about “empowering women in adventure”. I was even more happy when I read Anna Paxton’s intelligent article about the competition brief, which is underpinned by a desire to challenge dominant visual tropes or clichés about ‘outdoor’ women. And I was even more happy still to see that Anna included my work as an example of this call to arms.
So get photographing sisters! We’re an ever-growing group determined to diversify the ways that women are visually portrayed. Join us! There shouldn’t be anything that a girl or woman feels she can’t do because of her gender.
