Normally I’m photographing running legend Angela Copson. But last week I ran Falkirk parkrun because it takes place in the gorgeous grounds of Callendar House where my exhibition was opening.
The timing was seamless: Parkrun at 9.30am; exhibition private view at 11, though it did mean I said my few words at the opening in my running gear. Anyway. Angela, 71, is the ‘poster girl’ for my exhibition and she and her husband Harry had very generously come up for the opening. So we got to run together.
Well, more accurately, we got start together. Angela, holding as she does, world records in every distance from 800m to the marathon, was off like a rocket the moment the whistle went. I’d say we were alongside for half a second, literally. Still, it was a real thrill for me to share that start with her. Angela’s age-related time was off the scale (again literally) – over 100%. She ran it in 22 minutes. I bust a gut to get to the finish in 33. Hey ho. What a beautiful course too, not to mention the usual parkrun UK friendly welcome. Absolutely loved it.
And if you are interested in seeing my work, it’s on at Callendar House in Falkirk until 19 August.
